How does the creative process work?

I am writing a new book about the creative process

Many of my readers may not know that I have been writing a book about the creative process. It’s an idea I have chewed on and studied for several years. What is my progress? As of today, I have written a manuscript of about 60,000 words and am in the third draft of edits. My new book has a working title, too: MIND BLOWN: Bridging science and magic to unlock your creative genius

How does creativity actually work?

I am curious. How does creativity work? How can we get better at it? A lot of books give us habits and systems to follow. I hope to explain well what I have found under the hood–the engine behind creativity! It is about bridges, connecting between opposing things. I have distilled it into three steps: The Dream, The Sandbox, and The Story.

The Three Steps: The Dream, The Sandbox, and The Story

The Dream is about discovery and idea generation. So how do we find ideas, and how can we get more and better ones? The first thing we do is dream. But, my book will explain underneath this a bit of how the brain works in this process. The second step is The Sandbox. This is where we develop our ideas with play and research and learn about real-world constraints and limits. Step three is The Story, where we finally deliver our creation into the world! The Story addresses our values, audience, and marketplace.

Basically, DISCOVER, DREAM, and DELIVER are what we do in The Dream, The Sandbox, and The Story. Crossing bridges between these are both a logical and imaginative journey. Science is the discipline and process. Magic represents the mysterious and intuitive side. It takes courage to travel this bridge, but in doing so, you can learn to unlock your creative genius.

The creative process is a fun one, and a stretch. I published my first book in 2018! Working on the second, and maybe third. Too much material. LOL!
