Recap: We had a guest Sunday. Mark Roach is a singer-songwriter-worship-leader guy from the St. Louis area who has written songs our church loves to sing in worship. I met Mark at recreateconference.com a few years ago and every time I get to hang out with him I am impressed by his heart for the church and his passion to create music that helps people experience God in worship. This guy is the real deal and is a worship director in a church, so he gets guys like me and truly is committed to the local church. He led us in a set of his songs, with one hymn. However, these seemed like “covers” to us since we sing these in our church. Our people really enjoyed Mark and personally it was wonderful to stand by my wife and be led in worship by a guy who passionately used his gifts this Sunday. Britt did an amazing job once again, but I think his smashing of the watermelon was an epic event. I will remember that sermon point forever now, Britt! Set List: I loved Mark’s tune “Holy Lord”–a song about the Trinity. I also loved his sharing and storytelling about that song as you will see on the video. RECAP: Today we finished our sermon series entitled “Bounce”–I think many were encouraged by talking about how to bounce back. With our economy and society having negative numbers and attitudes, the church has so much to offer with relationships. One fun thing today was to do the “God is good…ALL the time” chant with the crowd. I mixed it up a bit and randomly said things like “You stock portfolio might be down…but..(cue congregation” GOD IS GOOD.” This surely is appropriate given that we live by faith and not the stock market. One funny quip was when I seated the church and said “You may have seated”–the chuckles were worth the mess up. 😉 SET LIST: We did once more Mark Roach’s “As Long As I Have You” as the anchor song for our series. Today Is The Day – Lincoln Brewster As Long As I Have You – Mark Roach You Are Good – Israel Houghton You Gave Your Life Away – Paul Baloche, Kathryn Scott Blessed Be Your Name – Matt Redman How did you celebrate God being good in the midst of gloomy news lately? Recap: This week we started a series of sermons called “Bounce: Life after impact.” Job’s life was examined in light of what times our church and community lives in today. I am looking forward to how this series plays itself out and how God in general is going to use the hard economic times to shape all of us. Set List: We focused the set of music on putting our source in the right place. “Be my source, me my light, Jesus.” Let It Rise – Holland Davis Awesome Is The Lord Most High – Cary Pierce, Chris Tomlin, Jesse Reeves, Jon Abel A Thousand Hallelujahs – Mark Roach You Pray For Me – Rich Kirkpatrick Be The Centre – Michael Frye How was your worship weekend? What moment did God speak to you? [more church set lists at Fred’s blog ]
