The Southern California wildfires continue to burn and my new hometown of Temecula we have seen not only the smoke from other area fires but have flames of our own. The winds are tremendous and some on the outskirts of town have been voluntarily evacuated. The above photo was taken at 1:30 PM from my second story office which is off of Winchester in Temecula near the western hills. Cresting over the hills to the left of this photo is a fire where I can see and hear a helicopter fight the fire.
The I-15 was closed south of us yesterday afternoon since neighboring Fallbrook (The Rice Canyon Wildfire) was ablaze. Flames and embers were crossing over the I-15.
Some news sites I have read about the Temecula fires are listed below:
- KABC TV: here
- The Press Enterprise: De Luz Fire
- North County News: here
- Some pics of last night of the De Luz fire near Temecula here
- Life Church’s response here (with some info on an agency www.socalrefugees.com )
I will try to update if anything hairy happens here. The Fallbrook fire was scary and our church staff made calls to our members who live out there. Please pray for the many who have lost their homes and for the Christian community to mobilize to meet the real needs of these people.
