The power of blogging and MySpace cannot be underestimated. Let me give you a slice of how this all works.
I am attending the Saddleback Worship Conference and Festival. Bobby, a fellow blogger who I met at re:create conference this year, rode down with me and helped get me and our Redding crew a place to stay. Speaking of re:create conference, Randy Elrod led a new workshop and it was great to see our blog father in action stretching our thinking as he always does. While here, I ran into Brian. He came up to me, stretched out his hand and said something like, "Rich, you don’t know me, but I read your blog." This was happening as my friend Dave and I were talking about the very subject of blogging. Dave and I met on the phone six months ago via a mutual friend.
The next day, Victor comes to Saddleback and has lunch with Bobby and I. Victor is a fellow worship-leader-blogger dude. And, his shirt matched mine which was not planned at all. (The picture at top is Victor, Bobby and yours truly). To top the day off, my new friend Dave took us to an incredible Italian restaurant with his team and I sat to worship leader and musician Terrence who upon seeing my business card said, "Hey, we are MySpace friends." Terrence and I had some dialog on MySpace six months prior and by "chance" met.
This is just a taste of what blogging has done to my life. I have had people pray with me, debate, encourage and challenge me. Blogging has been a way to build community, network and influence. I love it. So, if you are a lurker out there on my blog, comment and show yourself! One day we might actually bump into each other.
