PLEASE PRAY: My surgery is this week

Surgery Dear friends and family and blogging community.

I have been scheduled for surgery this week to remove part or all of my thyroid.  Since my last test, the mass in the right side of my thyroid has grown 30% and the best wisdom says that waiting is not a good idea since it could be cancerous.  The condition is multi-nodular goiter, but I will not know if either of the the growths are cancerous until a couple days after the surgery.  If it is cancer, treatment is almost always very effective.

Please pray for a steady hand for the surgeon and for a full recovery. Of special concern to me is my singing voice.  The surgeon, who is very experienced by the way, will use a monitor on the laryngeal nerves to help prevent damage to the vocal chords.  My voice is likely to be pretty much out for a few weeks, as far as performing or leading worship goes.  Although, I may be fine after about 3 weeks.  This might be the first Christmas ever for me to not sing!

My surgery is at the Mercy Medical Center here in Redding (CA), Thursday morning on November 30.  I am quite certain God will take care of me and heal me.  Your prayers for healing are so much appreciated.  My kids and wife would also appreciate your prayers.  They will need your support during the time I am recovering.

If you want to read more details about my journey on this so far, here are the articles that tell my story.  I will update you as soon as I am able this week.

  5. Hey man, just stumbled on your site. Great job! I’ve been reading over your recent posts on your thyroid condition and it is quite erie that someone in our church just recently went through the exact same thing.
She went into surgery not knowing if they would take just 1 thyroid or both, and it depended on whether she had cancer or not. The biopsy was inconclusive so they decided to so surgery.

Our pastor and myself was there at the hospital with the family and it was great news to find out that it was not cancerous and they didn’t feel it necessary to remove the other gland.

I’ll keep you in my prayers!
