Family Fun! We took a couple days to drive two-and-a-half hours north to beautiful Ashland, Oregon and go to a play. What happens in Ashland is the Oregon Shakespeare Festival where one can attend one of several plays, including but not limited to Shakespeare. The quality is excellet and certainly world-class. The four of us chose to see The Diary of Anne Frank since my daughter just read the book. It was an incredibly powerful play where the story of the Holocaust was told through the eyes of a teenage girl.
One highlight was going to a backstage tour the three theaters that make up the festival. After this we walked around the cute little town and saw the many colorful people one might find in a big city. What a place. Organic food for lunch. And merchandising taken to the limit. Let me introduce you to the Shakespeare action figure!
Yes, we had fun. But, both kids got sick which made for some typically comical tense moments that one might expect from a family of four on a road trip! We arrived home in Redding today (Saturday) only to sit in the waiting room of the local walk-in medical clinic. And, dad has a bit of guilt for being a bit tough with his son who happened to have a 104-degree temp! Both kids are great kids! They love their mom and dad and were actually very gracious inspite of pink eye, fevers and tummy aches. I think the bribery might have actually worked.
