Disturbing Trend: 70% Increase in Sex Scenes On TV

As a parent, I am amazed that my TV parental filter blocks out most of the content broadcasted. There are literally no kid-safe shows to speak of it seems and there is research to back this up. It is increasingly important as parents to be involved with our kids with all the inappropriate content on TV these days. The San Jose Mercury News online version picked up the following AP wire: Study Says There Is More Sex On TV.

Here is a quote from the article:

The proportion of shows with sexual content in prime-time on the major broadcast networks – ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox – also increased, the study said. Nearly eight in 10 network shows, or 77 percent, included sexual content. That’s up from 67 percent in 1998 and 71 percent in 2002.

The research was conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation: www.kff.org.

  1. The sad thing is they are only pumping out these kinds of shows because that’s what sells.
It’s incredibly frustrating to have to constantly keep my finger on the channel change button in case something pops up on the screen that I don’t want my kids to see. Whatever happened to the “family hour”?
