Jesus Seminar and Scholars

Mark D. Roberts has an excellent blog that I have read from time to time this past year. The Jesus Seminar article today perked my interest since I remember one of my theology professors in San Jose (San Jose Christian College which is now William Jessup University) debated these guys in the local newspaper. It was great classroom discussion, but was also in the discourse of the day with the media covering the topic locally and nationally. Today this group seems to speak as the “scholarly” voice on Jesus in America. Not true, according to Roberts. I am glad there are people like Mark D. Roberts. He uncovered much more conservative results from scholars studying the gospels and historical Jesus. Unlike the impression given by the Jesus Seminar, scholars on the subject are not as liberal as you might think. This article and the many others on the Jesus Seminar are a good read.
