CONFESSIONAL VIDEO: Worship Team versus the Tech/Audio Team!!

Mike Silliman posted this video on his blog. Great discussion starter and so funny.

Really, do you see yourself in this video if you run sound, lights, lead worship, etc.?

  1. Having been on both sides of things*, I’ve seen many of these situations and tried my best not to participate in the hate. I’m not perfect (duh/of course/that goes without saying) so I’m sure I’ve had my fair share of being the problem.
But both sides would do well to consider each other on the same team, rather than opposing teams, I think. Lincoln Brewster first instilled this idea† in me at the Purpose Driven Worship Conference back in 2006 (I think it was 2006 anyway). We’re the body of Christ and a hand cannot be a foot, etc. But we need to work together for His glory and for His kingdom!

*(7+ years running words, switching video, running a spotlight, sound board or lighting board & ~9 years playing on a worship team, leading worship with and without a music team or tech team)

†(He also instilled in me the idea that when your wife calls, you answer no matter what. He was in the middle of giving his talk, and his wife called, and he answered it, told her he loved her and that he would call her a bit later when he was done giving his talk.)

    1. Josh…both sides?! cool, then you must be emotionally damaged worse than most worship ministry people 😉

      1. I’m more damaged than you could imagine. Why are you even friends with me? Haha! I’m a pretty messed up individual.

  5. You can’t be too hard of tech guys, especially the ones who are volunteers. Volunteers don’t have to get yelled at, if they do there’s no recourse if they decide not to serve anymore. Besides, it’s not as though we do it on purpose. There is so much multi-tasking done every second of Sunday mornings it is inevitable that you will make a mistake. We don’t embarrass guitarists for making a mistake on a guitar lead, so please don’t do the same to us.

  9. oh my gosh…….LOL……how about a senior teaching pastor that thinks he knows all things technical?? LOL…….rich…..i don’t think that you are one of those uneducated (in tech stuff) whiney worship pastors. i think the biggest problem is that most of us don’t spend enough time communicating with each other outside of the pressure of the weekend. i know that it certainly helped me to be on both sides. this video should be shown at all churches. maybe help everyone walk in each others shoes for a mile! (and everyone gets a good laugh too! LOL)

    1. haha Con, I felt your pain on the senior teaching pastor bit. Too many times did I have to deal with a teaching pastor trying to educate volunteers on a sound/light/video/switch/technology in general board who never used it himself.

      1. Worship Leaders are of course guilty of this like speakers, etc. Having some sound training has been good, but I have to let my teams do their job.
The key point of this video is that each has a perspective we need to understand in order to be a healthy team. Indeed, that is not easy!

As for musicians with all do respect we should be allowed to leave as many mikes muted as notes you miss on stage.
