Worship Recap & Setlist: January 25, 2009

RECAP: Today we finished our sermon series entitled “Bounce”–I think many were encouraged by talking about how to bounce back. With our economy and society having negative numbers and attitudes, the church has so much to offer with relationships.

One fun thing today was to do the “God is good…ALL the time” chant with the crowd. I mixed it up a bit and randomly said things like “You stock portfolio might be down…but..(cue congregation” GOD IS GOOD.” This surely is appropriate given that we live by faith and not the stock market.

One funny quip was when I seated the church and said “You may have seated”–the chuckles were worth the mess up. 😉

SET LIST: We did once more Mark Roach’s “As Long As I Have You” as the anchor song for our series.

  • Today Is The Day – Lincoln Brewster
  • As Long As I Have You – Mark Roach
  • You Are Good – Israel Houghton
  • You Gave Your Life Away – Paul Baloche, Kathryn Scott
  • Blessed Be Your Name – Matt Redman

How did you celebrate God being good in the midst of gloomy news lately?

  1. I’ll have to familiarize myself with Lincoln Brewster. His name keeps popping up on these setlists. Israel Houghton is a great writer/leader, isn’t he?

  5. That’s a great set, Rich. We’ve not done ‘You Gave Your Life Away’, but I love the song – indeed I love the whole ‘Our God Saves’ album. I’ve also not heard of Matt Roach, I’ll check him out.

  13. Good stuff…
I’m not familiar with Mark Roach. I’ll have to check him out.

Our anchor song has been “Gravity” by John Mayer… Great song and the congregation loves it! Check some of the lyrics.

    “Oh I’ll never know
    what makes a man
    with all the love
    a heart can stand
    dream of ways
    to through it all away.”

    and

    “twice as much
    ain’t twice as good
    and can’t sustain
    what one half could”

    and

    “Gravity, stay away from me…
Gravity has taken better men than me…
just keep me where the light is…
oh keep me where the light is!”

Works well with Psalm 119:105 “Your word oh Lord is a lamp to my feet and a light unto my path”

  21. Our congregation really likes “You gave Your life away” also. Paul Baloche is great at writing very singable congregational songs.
