Cooking is a manly endeavor…

I think cooking truly is a manly thing.  My dad loved to cook when he could and the few dished he knew he did with flair.  My brothers cook.  Of course my mom is amazing, too.  But, I think us guys have to realize how manly cooking really is.  We rock when we can come home and cook up a healthy meal.  My meal tonight:  Spanish rice, pork center-cut roast, beans and some homemade tortillas.

OK.  What do you think…is cooking manly or what?

  1. I can cook one meal. Grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, and corn. Very fancy.

  5. Of course cooking is flipping manly – have you watched any tv chefs in the last ten years?! In fact, where are all the women tv chefs? The problem is that we men only like the glamorous side of cooking, the skillful, technical, showmanship side, pushing limits and creating extravagant or hearty dishes. If we were to cook for the family day in, day out, it would probably kill us. Hooray and well done for all of you (male or female) who do!

  9. Yes, Yes, Yes…and I am impressed that you inherited more than just the BBQ gene… must have been from your mom. There is just something about creating something mouthwatering that brings a sense of pride… of course if you cook, then someone else has to clean, which helps even more. Great post, Amie

  13. As an Italian who loves to cook, I say absolutely YES, cooking is manly. My wife thinks so too, especially when I make her favorite, chicken and pasta. I am making sure that my 3 boys can cook as well.
    Is anybody else hungry now?

Especially on the grill in the backyard.

and especially especially in the woods or the mountains. Thats where the really manly cooking occurs.

  21. I do all the cooking at home. And shockingly enough, I love it. Who is up for some grilled salmon? Or maybe hickory smoked beef, braised asparagus over poached eggs, bangers and mash, toad in the hole, cod and chips?

  25. Totally manly! I love cooking (and my wife likes it too!)
I think man cooking is a bit different than most ladies though. Most guys that cook seem to take more risks with flavors and unique twists. I hardly ever use a recipie! I like to just glance in the fridge and make something happen!

  33. Shooooooot, yeah! I love to cook.
But is everyone who’s commented an artist-type? ‘Cause if so, that might void their responses. I think creative people just like to create, period. Making something that people eat is really fulfilling (bada-boom…).

My 13-year-old son has apparently inherited the gene. He grilled steaks for us the other night — and I didn’t help other than getting the charcoal stacked before he lit it — and they were unbelievably good. He made his own marinade. That’s what set them apart.
