Worship Recap & Set List: June 29….back in the saddle

RECAP:  This week I am back in the saddle after a week a vacation and a few days at the Saddleback Worship ConferenceMike, our band director, took some needed time away this week so Chris stepped in and helped glue us together musically.  We sure LOVE Mike and I am so grateful to have him and in his absence people like our Chris, our Mr. Shredder.

Our pastor’s microphone has some RF problems, which at first were
treated like feedback issues.  Somehow, someone locally is using the
same frequency for something causing us havoc.  David
experimented with some cool projection tricks on our backdrop using two
USB webcams and putting them on high saturation and making them look
edgy.  It worked great!

SET LIST:  “Our God Saves” was repeated once again and it
really hit home today with a message about the life of Moses.  Moses
had been on the shelf, yet later in life was able to live out his
purpose.  The song talks about us having the whole world see what we do
in lifting up our God in worship–our ultimate purpose.

  • Everlasting God – Brenton Brown
  • A Thousand Hallelujahs – Mark Roach
  • Jesus Paid it All – arr. Kristian Stanfill
  • Here I Am to Worship – Tim Hughes
  • Our God Saves – Brenton Brown/Paul Baloche

How was your worship weekend?

  1. Today was my first week back after being out for the last few, so it was good to be back at it again. I just posted a confessional over at my place earlier this afternoon. I’m always amazed at what you guys do with an all-volunteer staff. Do you have a video of the set to post?

  9. Actually it was feedback issues first service and RF interference second service. Satan must be really pissed off with what’s going on to put that much effort into giving us a hard time with 2 completely unrelated issues.
Coincidence? I think not. We’re not back at base pushing little toy soldiers around on a war planet table. We are at the front lines of spiritual warfare, and that pisses satan off!

I loved the video background that David did. Everyone I talked to thought it was brilliant. And what makes it cool is how low-tech it actually is: a few USB web cams, a laptop with Photobooth and projector. That’s it!

  13. Had a blast today. I too loved the low tech USB cameras. I am always amazed and humbled by the amount of dedication that everyone involved in the service has to not settling for just OK.

  29. Good to see you back in the saddle 🙂
Excelent morning of worship! Satan may be mess’n with our mics but he didn’t accomplish much. The message still got through and we got to keep it real with a few hicups in the process!

I was thinking during second service how lucky we are to have you as our worship pastor Rich. Keep it up!

  33. Awesome set man! Our weekend went great as well. Our pastor’s mic had some feedback as well during our third service, which was kind of weird. We never have feedback issues, so it was almost exciting! haha.
    Our set was:
    Salvation Is Here – United
For Who You Are – Hillsong
You Never Let Go – Matt Redman
    Saviour King – Hillsong

People really connected with “You Never Let Go” this weekend. God is faithful!

  37. I echo the “great set list” comments, Rich!
Sunday we had a guest speaker and I was able to pull in a “God as Creator” music theme that I’d been wanting to do for a couple of months. It was phenomenal; left with a renewed sense of awe that we actually have a one-on-one relationship with the Creator of the universe. Kinda mind-boggling when you think about it. Here’s what we did.

    – He Reigns (opener) – Peter Furler | Steve Taylor
    – I Sing the Mighty Power of God (custom arrangement of a classic hymn; actually three obscure old hymns for extra verses, because the main one is a children’s song)
    – God of Wonders – Marc Byrd | Steve Hindalong
    – Indescribable – Laura Story
    – Fairest Lord Jesus – German Jesuits
    – Yes You Have – Jack Mooring | Leeland Mooring | Matt Bronleewe

  41. I can’t think of another song like, “Here I am to Worship” that resets the compass of my heart. No matter how discouraged, dispondent, or self-focused I am when I walk into church, the lyrics of that song remind me of why I came and my real purpose in life: to worship HIM, the I AM, the living God. It reminds me that worship, by definition, means “to bow and kiss” the Lord. “Come let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord, our God, our Maker. For He is our God and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand.” Psalm 95:6, 7
He is altogether lovely, altogether worthy, altogether wonderful in every way~ praise the Lord!

  45. I liked David’s effects too. Besides being cool I thought it brought us into the worship expression of an individual i.e. Kyle’s drumming or Chris’ shredding) without losing the corporate experience and without the reality of a straight camera shot. Instead of “Oh, Chris has a nice shirt on today” you feel Chris’ passion in his playing, Kyle’s energy on the drums. The difference between a picture and a painting or the physical v.s. the emotional. My only problem was that I usually close my eyes but yesterday I kept wanting to see the screen!
