Worship Set List – March 30, ’08: Djembe, New original song, Simplify

Worshipbnnr This week was another awesome worship Sunday at Sunridge Community Church.  Our new sermon series entitled “Simplify” began today.  What a great concept:  Greg Sidders uses the six statements that Jesus made about discipleship to help unclutter your walk with Christ.  This is going to be a memorable six weeks for our church.

We did part of our service “unplugged” using a djembe for the first time since I came to SoCal.  Kyle, our screaming drummer, actually plays it quite well.  The idea was to “simplify” our sound right after Greg gave a synopsis of the series in front of the service.

We debuted an original worship song of mine, “This Sacred Place” and I think it was successful.  I wrote this just a few weeks ago, and got good feedback about it from some worship publishing execs and friends at EMI’s www.worshiptogether.com while at a special songwriting session back in February’s re:create conference. (I hope to get a demo made soon.) **I added the video and chord chart in this post here.

Here was the music we did today:

How was your worship weekend?

  5. Just wrote about it. Went really well I think. Nothing but positive feedback so far.
I like Shust’s song for a congregational song. Nice pick.

  9. I would LOVE to hear the song…I love your original stuff, man. I used a cello, flute, one other singer, and some loops yesterday – I thought it was one of the most musical services we have done in a long time…I love simple.
