My Christmas greeting in song: Light of the World

Merry Christmas to my family, friends and blogging community out there.  This is my first Christmas season in Temecula, California.  As most of you know, we recently moved our family from Redding to SoCal and are adjusting as well as can be expected.  The Christmas season is great for all the reasons our culture loves, but I have to pause and share what I think Christmas is really about.  Just like Linus of Peanuts, I had the lights turned on and had my chance to speak some sense–if anything to myself.  Christmas is powerful because of the power of the fact of Jesus coming as a baby with the intent of dying for you and I.

The video with the post includes a song I wrote a few years back: "Light of the World"  I wrote it as I was reflecting on my cynical attitude about church Christmas programs and Christmas in general. This was the week after a grueling church performance schedule.  In that reflection I felt spiritually spanked as the Holy Spirit churned up scriptures about the incarnation of Jesus.  Why would I discount such an important event.  Without the birth of Jesus, there is no cross.  There is no resurrection.  There is no new life.  No hope.  So, this song basically was a personally powerful worship experience in my studio.  The irony is that God used this song of the last couple years to touch people with the truth in it.

I do not know where you are in your spiritual journey, but I sure hope you meet and eventually follow this amazing person named Jesus. He surely is the light in dark world.  When we sing "Emmanuel" or God with us, we can really mean it because Jesus offers you hope.  So, from me, Tammy and the kids have a blessed and MERRY Christmas as we worship the Light of the World!

Light of the World

One silent night, a king was born in a stable
A city full of lights, but his star out shines them all
One little boy, the Word made flesh lives among us
A world in need of joy hears good news and cheer tonight

Light of the World, you left your throne,
became a man and died in my place
Light of the World, you came to suffer and to serve
You dispelled darkness, and conquered death
Your a giver of hope, and my righteousness
Your a giver of life, a friend to sinners,
Light of the World, Light of the World

Two tiny hands, armed with pain and redemption
For a dark and lonely land, needs a hero’s sacrifice
Three gifts from kings, gold, myrrh and frankincense
O death where is your sting, and grave your victory!

Light of the World, you left your throne,
became a man and died in my place
Light of the World, you came to suffer and to serve
You dispelled darkness, and conquered death
Your a giver of hope, and my righteousness
Your a giver of life, a friend to sinners,
Light of the World, Light of the World

Just as the angels proclaimed the good news,
To poor tattered shepherds that night
We sing God’s praises to a world in the dark
Shine the light of the Morning Star’s grace!

Light of the World, you left your throne,

became a man and died in my place

Light of the World, you came to suffer and to serve

You dispelled darkness, and conquered death

Your a giver of hope, and my righteousness

Your a giver of life, a friend to sinners,

Light of the World, Light of the World
