New Star Trek Movie: Matt Damon as Kirk?

StartrekxiMatt Damon as Kirk?  Wow.  It is true.  In 2008 there is a Star Trek XI movie coming out that is a prequel to the original series.  Of course, I will watch it, no matter how horrible it is, since I just love Star Trek.  J.J. Abrams at the helm is a good thing.

  1. I look at this as having potential to be really, really good, or stink really, really bad. I’m glad they’re reviving the original characters, though. The Next Generation series was great, but I just keep going back to the original for some reason. That would be cool if they found a spot for Leonard Nimoy somewhere, maybe as Sarek?
It will be interesting to see how they fill the rest of the cast: Spock, Bones, Scotty, Uhuru, Sulu, etc…

I’m with you though, I’ll see it no matter what. I’m always up for a new Star Trek flick.

  5. Matt Damon as Kirk? Boy oh boy, Hollywood gives all these adult roles to children. Damon looks like a freshman in college. Casting him in the lead role of The Bourne Identity was a travesty of film justice (just kidding).
Our whole culture is based on 20-somethings. They get all of the lead roles in film, they get the lion’s share of the air time on radio and tv. Only a few lucky (lost) souls can go into their 30s and still be the top dog.

  9. Matt Damon must be one of those 30-something-lost-souls making it since he will be 36 this year. Go GenXers! We will soon be hitting 40s (OUCH!). (His birthday is in 1970)

  13. I’m not sure how I feel about this as a Trekkie myself . . . but of course I will see it just like all the other Trek fans
